The objectives of the BETTER registry are:

  • To provide a general portrait of the population with type 1 diabetes in Quebec in terms of demographics, treatment, frequency and consequences of hypoglycemia, lifestyle habits and complications of diabetes;

  • To measure the frequency and severity of hypoglycemic episodes;

  • To evaluate the potential of new technologies and therapies to reduce the frequency of hypoglycemia.

General Information on Follow Up (profile, frequency)

Individuals with type 1 diabetes can self-enroll until 2023. Follow-up is planned yearly until 2023.

Adults group: Participants aged 14 years and older have the option to complete one, two or three phases of the study. Each phase corresponds to one survey. Participants who have completed two surveys (i.e., completed Phase 2) or three surveys (i.e., completed Phase 3) are asked to fill yearly follow-up surveys.

Children group: Only one survey is completed by parents at enrollment for participants under 14 years old. When children turn 14 years old they are invited to enroll in the adult group followup.
