H70 is a population-based study of normative aging in 70 year old populations, which focuses on both medical and cognitive measures.
The original aim was:

  1. To contribute to the knowledge of normal ageing processes and of normal conditions within the age group;
  2. To make a survey of the social and medical conditions of the population;
  3. To obtain basic data for planning the care of the elderly and;
  4. To offer the pariticipants a thorough medical examination.

General Information on Follow Up (profile, frequency)

After the baseline at 70 years old, cohort 1 was followed-up at 75, 79, 81, 82, 83, 85, 88, 90, 92, 97, 99 and 100 years old

After the baseline at 70 years old, cohort 2 was followed-up at 75, 79  and 95 years old.

After the baseline at 70 years old, cohort 3 was followed-up at 72 and 76 years old.

After the baseline at 75 years old, cohort 4 was followed-up at 80 years old.

Cohorts 5 and 6 only had the baseline examination at 70 years old.

The population consisted of a representative sample of 70-year-old men and women born in 1930 and living in Göteborg in 2000. A subset of women was enrolled based on previous participation in the longitudinal study of women in Göteborg. These women were selected from the population register in 1968 and have since been followed up regularly.
