Child Maltreatment Research Network
The Child Maltreatment Research Network was formally established in 2023 to facilitate data harmonization integrative data analysis research on the long-term physical and mental health sequelae of child maltreatment exposure. The network is comprised of 9 NIH-funded prospective, longitudinal child maltreatment cohort studies that utilized gold-standard methods: record-based ascertainment of CM, and matched nonmaltreated youth; multi-measure, multi-level, multi-informant assessment. This harmonization process yields an unprecedented integrated sample (N = 5,078) that includes a comprehensive assessment of documented child maltreatment exposure and assessment of an array of biopsychosocial processes from ages 4 through 40. Pooling original data from multiple child maltreatment cohort studies stretches the developmental period under observation and generates a more heterogenous, diverse sample that can increase the likelihood of identifying robust, generalizable, and reproducible findings for the child maltreatment field.
The network activities encourage the examination of heterogeneity in child maltreatment exposure and in the developmental trajectories of child maltreatment survivors.
The CMRN is funded through collaborative efforts between two NICHD P50 Centers at the University of Rochester (P50HD096698) and The Pennsylvania State University (P50HD089922), as well as a NICHD (National Institute of Child Health and Human Development) K01 award.
