The objective of the Bambuí (Brazil) Cohort Study of Ageing is to examine the separate and joint effects of chronic Trypanosoma cruzi infection and non-communicable diseases on health outcomes in old age.

The population consists of residents in Bambuí (a town of approximately 15,000 inhabitants in southeast Brazil) aged 60 years or older on January 1, 1997 who were identified by a complete census in the city.
