This survey was a joint effort of 15 institutions located in the eastern, middle, and western parts of China. Each institution identified one or more target communities; a total of 20 target communities (18 urban and 2 rural) participated in the project. The individuals at least 60 years old registered in the 2010 national census as permanent residents of these communities were entered into a database and a simple random sample of them were selected as potential participants in the survey.
