The Canadian Lung Outcomes in Users of Vaping Devices Study
The Canadian Lung Outcomes in Users of Vaping Devices (CLOUD) study purpose is to advance knowledge of the effects of vaping on the lung health and overall well-being of adults and adolescents across Canada.
The specific aims are:
Aim 1. Determine the lung health impact of Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (ENDS) use in Canadian adolescents:
* To characterize the structural and functional disruptions associated with ENDS use, through oscillometry, multiple breath washout, MR imaging, and cardiopulmonary exercise testing will be used.
* Quantify the association between ENDS use and poor respiratory outcomes, including symptoms, respiratory-related events, and school absences.
* Characterize epigenetic and transcriptomic disruptions associated with ENDS use in induced sputum.*
Aim 2. Determine the lung health impact of ENDS use in Canadian adults:
* To characterize structural and functional disruptions associated with ENDS use through oscillometry, CT and MR imaging, and cardiopulmonary exercise testing.
* To quantify the association between ENDS use and poor respiratory outcomes, including symptoms, respiratory-related events, and work absences.
* To characterize epigenetic and transcriptomic disruptions associated with ENDS use in the small airway epithelium and immune cells.
