First, sentinel neighbourhoods from Montreal were selected.
Then different school boards that operate within the selected neighbourhoods as well as with the different daycare associations were contacted.
Once school approval was received, an invitation email from the director of the school was sent to all parents and guardians of currently enrolled students. The invitation email included a short description of the project as well as a link to the study website. On the study website, students, parents, guardians, and personnel found more details about the study, describing details on how to contact the research team in addition to a video capsule that introduced the study team and study.
In addition to the letter of invitation, they also recruited participants through social media by: posting information on the school or daycare’s Facebook page when possible, Facebook ads for their study, that would be able to direct the recruitment ad to Facebook users that live in the study neighbourhoods.
