Monongahela Valley Independent Elders Survey
The purpose of the MoVIES project was to learn more about the process of aging in the small towns and rural areas of the United States. The researchers were interested both in normal aging and in various disorders and disabilities that occur in old age. It also studied the incidence, risk factors, and outcome in late-life dementia, including Alzheimer's disease.

An age-stratified random sample of 1422 older adults drawn from voter registration lists and 259 volunteers from the same communities meeting the same inclusion criteria were enrolled.
