Swedish National March Cohort
The purpose of the study was to create a large prospective cohort to investigate associations between lifestyle factors and chronic diseases, including cancer, in the Swedish population.

Essentially complete follow-up has since been attained through multiple record linkages, done approximately biannually to Statistics Swedens Register of the total population and population changes, Patient Register, Cancer Register and Causes of Death Register.(Prescribed Drug Register(start 2005); National Prostate Cancer).

In September 1997 the Swedish National March, a 4-day promotional and fund-raising event for the Swedish Cancer Society, took place in almost 3600 Swedish cities and villages. Participants were invited to fill out a questionnaire concerning lifestyle and medical history.
